Alan Mcwilliams
Alan McWilliams joined the Texas General Land Office (GLO) in 2004 as a natural resource specialist in the Alpine Field Office. Prior to the GLO he served as a County Extension Agent with the Texas A&M University System for 15 years in several West Texas counties and owned a landscape and irrigation business.
The Texas General Land Office is the state’s oldest agency, established in the Republic of Texas constitution in 1836 to oversee the distribution of public land grants, register titles, issue patents on land and maintain records. Permanent School Fund (PSF) land is held and managed in a trust for state public education. A key component of the agency mission statement involves maximizing revenues from PSF land by leasing the surface for agricultural uses with the goal of preserving and protecting state natural resources through prudent management.
In his current role as Deputy Director for Leasing Operations Alan has the responsibility of coordinating all surface leasing and easements activities (oil/gas pipelines, water lines, electric lines, roadways) on approximately 670,000 acres of PSF lands statewide as well as all pipeline easements crossing state-owned submerged land extending 10.3 miles out into the Gulf of Mexico.
