Seyyed Hosseini

Dr. Seyyed A. Hosseini is the Associate Director of the Environmental Division at the Bureau of Economic Geology, The University of Texas at Austin. In this role, he oversees multidisciplinary research programs that span groundwater, water-energy nexus, carbon management, geothermal energy, induced seismicity, coastal studies, geologic hazards, and mineral resources. He works closely with colleagues across the Bureau to strengthen interdisciplinary collaborations, secure diverse funding sources, and advance the Bureau’s mission as the State Geological Survey of Texas.

Dr. Hosseini is a Research Professor with two decades of experience in subsurface and environmental sciences, specializing in flow modeling in porous media, carbon sequestration, and the integration of machine learning into geoscience applications. He has led many externally funded projects from federal agencies, industry, and international organizations, with research spanning field studies, laboratory experiments, and numerical simulations.

As a senior leader at the Bureau, Dr. Hosseini has played a key role in faculty governance, promotion processes, and strategic initiatives that enhance research excellence and professional development. He has coauthored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and technical reports, served on national and international advisory committees, and actively contributed to professional societies. His vision for the Environmental Division emphasizes interdisciplinary innovation, sustainable resource management, and impactful science that benefits Texas and beyond.
