ira yates

Ira grew up ranching over the Barton Springs Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone in Austin and has served on many boards and commissions dealing with water quantity, quality and land use. His oil and gas heritage and experience with the Yates Oil Field in Iraan on the Pecos River gives him a broad perspective ranging from agriculture to industrial and municipal needs for water. Friends of the Pecos River started as a local STEM educational project in Iraan focused on the Pecos River and is morphing into an advocate for the River and restoration of it’s landscape, reestablishment of the water cycle and recharge of the alluvial aquifer. Ira is currently creating the Pecos River and Land Interpretive Center in Iraan to tell the story of how the Pecos Valley landscape changed from prairie to semi arid desert during the livestock period and what it could become with proper practices and with the introduction of the beneficial use of cleansed produced water.
