Shujuan Mao
Dr. Shujuan Mao is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin. Her research lies at the intersection of seismology, hydrogeology, and energy science, advancing new ways to image and monitor how Earth’s shallow fluid–rock systems evolve in space and time. By integrating seismic observations with hydrological and geophysical processes, she studies subsurface dynamics associated with groundwater systems, geothermal energy, and volcanic unrest—problems central to resource sustainability and geohazard mitigation. Her work focuses on developing the cutting-edge passive seismic interferometry to track subsurface changes in four-dimensions (space–time).
Dr. Mao received her B.S. from Peking University and her Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She was a George A. Thompson Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford University and also conducted research at the Institut des Sciences de la Terre (ISTerre) in Grenoble, France.
