2024: Shaping the Future

The 2024 Permian Basin Water In Energy Conference kicked-off at The University of Texas Permian Basin’s Center for Energy and Economic Diversification building on Tuesday, March 5th by welcoming attendees, sponsors, students, and university affiliates to the two-day event. The 2024 Conference witnessed robust participation, with 531 registered attendees from local, regional, national, and international backgrounds, including several representatives from Canada and Denmark. This marked a notable 12.74% increase in attendance compared to the previous year.

The event, hosted at the Bush Convention Center in downtown Midland, Texas, featured more than 60 speakers, including distinguished figures like Texas Representative Brooks Landgraf and Chief Clerk Mark A. Havens. Dr. John Moon, Managing Director of Morgan Stanley Energy Partners, delivered a keynote address during the dinner session hosted at the Midland Country Club. Moreover, the conference boasted the support of 40 sponsor companies, with 25 returning and 15 new sponsors, indicating a significant 29.03% rise in sponsorship compared to 2023. 

Additionally, $15,000 in student scholarship funds were allocated, reflecting a commendable 7.12% increase in scholarship funding from the previous year. Overall, the 2024 conference served as a platform for networking, knowledge sharing, and advancing discussions on water in energy, showcasing substantial growth and engagement within the Permian Basin energy community.

Conference Highlights:

  • 531 registered attendees, including local, regional, national, and international participation – a 12.74% increase in registered attendees over 2023.  
  • 60+ speakers participated onstage this year including lunch keynote speakers Representative Brooks Landgraf, Texas House of Representatives and Chief Clerk Mark A. Havens, Texas General Land Office. and our dinner headliner Dr. John Moon, Managing Director of Morgan Stanley Energy Partners (MSEP) who spoke at the Midland Country Club.  
  • 40 companies sponsored the 2024 Permian Basin Water In Energy Conference, including 25 returning companies and 15 new sponsoring companies – a 29.03% increase in sponsors over 2023.  
  • $34,000 in student support a 16.14% increase in scholarship funding awarded over 2023.

2023: Navigating New Waters

The 2023 Permian Basin Water in Energy Conference, held from March 1-3, 2023, at the Midland County Horseshoe Arena, brought together over 500 industry professionals to address the pressing challenges of produced water management. The event featured keynote speaker Mike Sommers, President and CEO of the American Petroleum Institute, and focused on topics such as induced seismicity, beneficial reuse, and regulatory updates. Attendees participated in a range of sessions, panels, and networking opportunities, all aimed at fostering innovation and collaboration within the oil and gas sector.

2022 Conference Hit A New High-Water Mark

The fourth annual PBWIEC connected hundreds of energy professionals, doled out thousands of dollars in scholarships, and grabbed dozens of news headlines. The two-day long conference took place at the Midland County Horseshoe with the keynote dinner at the Midland Petroleum Club. All told, the conference saw 450 registered participants and featured 45 speakers/panelists. Both attendees and speakers came in from across Texas and around the country for the conference.
